Frequently asked questions
For the Salon Owners:
How do I register my salon?
Click on the Salon Owners Tab in the Menu Bar and complete the online Form to register.
How does The Back-up Hairdresser model work?
Once your salon is registered, we organise an in-salon onboarding consultation to go through all salon processes, systems and products so we are prepared and ready when you need a hairdresser.
Can I register online and get a back-up hairdresser without the onboarding meeting?
Unfortunately no, the onboarding consultation is part of the registration process and must be completed before a back-up hairdresser is assigned to your salon.
I only need help for a couple of hours, is this available?
We have a minimum 4 hour booking period on any day.
How do I know the hairdresser will fit into my salon seamlessly?
We have a thorough onboarding process for our back-up hairdressers which includes a practical skills and client interaction assessment so that we can ensure we find the right fit for you and your salon needs.
If I use a back-up hairdresser, what do I need to provide the stylist with?
The stylist will provide thier own scissors, blowdryer and brushes and you will need to provide the rest (e.g colours, products, styling tools etc). Please refer to Salon Owner Service Agreement
Will the hairdresser keep records of their work?
Yes, our hairdressers will be made aware of the record system your salons uses and will update the system with the recieved service after each client to ensure their regular hairdresser is up-to-date when they return to the salon.
I want to go on holiday, can I book a hairdresser for 3 weeks?
Yes, you absolutely can however we cannot guarentee it will be the same hairdresser for the entire duration of time.
The back-up hairdresser has fit so seamlessly into our salon, can we offer them a permanent position?
No, you cannot approach the back-up hairdressers for employment. We offer a temporary service only. Please refer to the Salon Owner Service Agreement
How do I pay for your services?
All invoices are sent after work is completed and to be paid within a 7 day period. Please refer to info (including costs) in Salon Owner Service Agreement
What happens if one of my clients approaches one of your hairdressers privately?
Yes, from time to time this happens! Please be reassured that all hairdressers clearly communicate to clients when they are recieving their service that this is a temp service only. If approached via social media, text, email or call, the hairdresser will re-direct the client back to the salon owner/manager to make a new booking, in the hope the hairdresser may be back in the salon again some time soon.
For the Hairdressers:
I am a qualified hairdresser, how do I register myself?
Click on the Hairdressers Tab in the Menu Bar and complete the online Form to register.
I have done the online hairdressers form, what happens next?
You will hear from Ava via text, email or phone to arrange a time to do the in-salon practical skills and client interaction assessment. From there, when a salon needs back-up support, we will be in contact to see if you are available.
Do I have to provide my own client for the practical skills assesment?
Yes, you will need to organise your own client. The practical skills component will be a wash, cut, blowdry & style (approx 1 hour) with colouring etc discussed througout the assesment.
I would love to register as a hairdresser however I am unable to provide regular hours?
That's okay. We can update you when a salon needs back-up support to see if you are available.
I am a hairdresser but limited to school hours. Would this work for me?
Absolutely! We have a minimum 4 hour working period and we can align you with salons that can be flexible around school commitments.
It's been a while since I was on the floor, do you offer any upskilling training so I feel a bit more confident before going into the salon?
Yes, up-skilling is something we can assist you with and can be discussed more in your practical skills assessment.
What happens if a client approaches me outside of the salon and wants me to keep doing their hair?
Yep, this happens from time-to -time. At the Back-up Hairdresser, we value clear communication across the board. This means if a client engages with you via social media, text, call or email and outside of the salon environment, you polietly re-direct them to the salon you serviced them in and the salon owner/manager can organise a follow-up appointment next time your in.
Do I need to provide any of my own tools?
Yes, you will need to provide your own cutting tools (scissors, combs, clips) blowdryer and brushes (and any other of your fav tools) and the salon will provide the rest (products, colours, styling tools etc).
Will I be employed as a casual or sub-contractor?
It really depends on your circumstance. If you are a contractor, you will invoice The Back-up Hairdresser at the end of the working period and will be paid via bank transfer. If you are employed, you will be paid via bank transfer after work is completed with super included. This will be further discussed at your onboarding meeting :-)
